Elafonisi is located close to the south western corner of Crete. It’s a small island and is a protected nature reserve.

3) Kournas Lake
The only fresh water lake in Crete. Located 4 kms from Georgioupolis in the prefecture of Chania (west Crete). Very beautiful landscape. Enjoy food and drinks from the restaurants around the lake and use pedal boats to go around it. 22 kms from Rethymno.
4) Spinalonga island
Located in the golf of Elounda , north eastern Crete.
This island has also been used as a leper colony . Nice daily rote , visit Agios Nikolaos city that is near by. 140 kms from Rethymno.
5) Cave of Zoniana (Sfentoni cave)
Located close to Anogia village in the hinterland of Rethymno prefecture. One of the best caves of Crete with amazing stalactites and stalagmites. 56 kms from Rethymno.
6) Chania old town & harbour
A beautiful resort of Crete with small streets and stunning Venetian architecture. 60 kms from Rethymno.
7) South side of Rethymno
Crete has thousands of beaches but the ones on the south side of the city are some of the best. Visit Rodakino , Plakias , Ammoudi , Shinaria , Triopetra , Agios pavlos and Preveli. All of them worth being visited. Between 40-70 kms from Rethymno.
8) Balos lagoon
This lagoon is located 56 kms northwest of Chania city. Famous for its turquoise waters , the wild natural beauty and the exotic scenery. Park the car at Kissamos village and use the daily cruises boats to visit it.

9) Arkadi monastery
This monastery is located southeast from Rethymno . Great history related to the Cretan revolution in 1866. There is a museum inside the monastery so you can learn about it. In the main area of it there is a dedicatory construction dedicated to the Cretan people who fight and died in this place. 21 kms from Rethymno.
10) Creta aquarium
Located close to Heraklion city. Visit also Heraklion city which is near by. 85 kms from Rethymno.
